David Posnack Hebrew Day School (DPHDS) high school students
have a variety of specialty groups that they can join to deepen
their academic learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and
leadership skills.
Student Government
The high school boasts an active student government. The
students are represented by a school-wide executive board,
consisting of a president, vice president, secretary, and
treasurer. In addition, the executive is joined by
representatives of each grade, the heads of other clubs and
student organizations, as well as representatives for
Tefillah and Judaic
Life. Student government addresses issues that concern the
entire student body such as social events and
Tikkun Olam
community service activities. The student government sponsors
the Homecoming Dance, Winter Ball, and Spirit Week.
National Honor Society
DPHDS hosts a National Honor Society chapter. A faculty advisory
board nominates students to the National Honor Society, which
recognizes outstanding academic scholarship and community
service. National Honor Society chapter members coordinate the
Adopt-a-Road program, the Charity Week fundraiser, and the
tri-annual blood drives. Additionally, members volunteer weekly
at the Riverwood Day Care Center.
Clubs and Organizations
DPHDS also hosts a
Health/Science and Medical Club focused on modern
medical issues, a Green Club
dedicated to bettering our school and community environment, an
English Honors Society
that advances student understanding of great literature, a
Key Club (a junior
affiliate of Kiwanis) that teaches leadership through community
action, a Mu Alpha Theta
chapter that allows students
interested
in advanced mathematics to pursue this goal and offers free peer
math tutoring, a Pup Club
that brings together animal lovers, a
Robotics Team for
students exploring the fields of advanced electronics,
Joe DiMaggio Benchwarmers
who volunteer twice monthly in the playroom of the Joe DiMaggio
Children’s Hospital, and a
SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) Club that
advocates student safety.
