The middle school of the David Posnack Hebrew Day School (DPHDS) offers its students a college
preparatory program, including advanced courses, college education,
and a wide
variety of electives. Our program includes, among other
things, accelerated math courses that allow students who meet
certain criteria to take accelerated math classes in the middle
school as well as at DPHDS’s high school.
For our 6th and 7th grade
students, we offer “wheels,” which expose our students to a variety
of subjects that they might not otherwise experience, such as
engineering, drama, and art. This introduction encourages them to
pursue those interests through more advanced electives.
In addition, our 7th grade students may
qualify to participate in the Duke Talent Identification Program
(TIP) and be eligible to take part in summer programs at well-known
universities. This year, over 50% of our 7th graders
qualified to take the Duke TIP qualifying test.
In 8th grade, our students
take CollegeEd®, a program from the College Board, which helps
prepare students for high school and focuses their attention on what
they need to do to get into the college of their choice. Our
students also have the opportunity to take the PSAT’s in 8th grade.
